Oil Company Polar Bear Rules Affirmed By Appeals Court

Huffington Post -- Oil companies operating in the Chukchi Sea off Alaska's northwest coast will have a negligible effect on polar bears and walrus, according to a federal Appeals Court ruling Tuesday that backed U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service rules on harassment of the animals.

A three-judge panel of the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals said the agency correctly issued rules that provide legal protection to oil companies if small numbers of polar bears or Pacific walruses are incidentally harmed.

"We're glad that the court has reaffirmed the appropriateness of our conservation measures," agency spokesman Bruce Woods said.

The Center for Biological Diversity sued over the rules, claiming both individual animals and entire populations must be analyzed for protection.

The EPA loves the court case brought by the "Center for Biological Diversity".

It makes them look almost "Main stream".

I would think it could be done without hurting the bears & walruses. Although no one does anything about the clubbing of baby seals. So what do I really know.

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service rules cover only the incidental harming of small numbers of polar bears or Pacific walruses by oil companies during their operations in the Chukchi Sea off Alaska's northwest coast.

Since the truth is there are more Polar bears now than ever, oil workers should be allowed to shoot one bear a week & have a nice bar-b-que on Saturday nights!

Hey Shell, please don't spill any oil on or under the arctic ice. It will be impossible to clean it up. Even worse than BP's mess.

The noise from the oil refinery is going to disturb the walruses!?!? Have you ever heard a herd of walruses on the beach? They should be fined for noise polution!

In the article it said that one polar bear had been killed by a security officer using a noise making round. I've used these rounds and if the bear was killed by it, then it was almost on top of the officer.

Finally a decision from a Federal Appeals Court that has some common sense. Mostly they are enviro courts sucking up to the Environmental Lobby making outrageous decisions.
