It could happen! In early 2009 one station in my area hit a low of $1.63 down from nearly $4.00 in 2008.
You see the stock market is out of control now and no one is doing anything about it. Soon there will be another huge crash and the price of gas will go down. How much I don't know?
All I know is the gas prices are hurting the economy big time. I know as prices of gas goes up I spend less and stay home. Vote the morons in DC out of office in November.

I would vote for gas prices going back down to $2.00. It's already very difficult to have a decent enough job to support your family. Then to have gas prices so high that filling up your car is considered another bill. Lower gas prices would sure take some of the pressure off.

If you can't afford to buy gas, why don't you take the subway or bus or train? I'm sure those are much cheaper than driving. Maybe you could move closer to work? Who's going to fund this "consideration" for those in the big cities? By the way, you've got nothing to complain about, we're paying $4.65/US Gal. here and prices have gone down lately. What are you paying $4/Gal?
